This stone castle, known as the Gillette Castle, sits high above the Connecticut river. The man who had the vision to build this unusual gothic castle wasn't the guy who invented shavers, but an actor who is best known as Sherlock Holmes. Totally unbeknownst to us, we had no idea that it was built exactly 100 years ago, in 1914. Besides the entire castle being constructed of stones, the doorknobs and locks are unusual too. He was really into trains and some engines are displayed in the visitor center.
This blogger's not too camera shy!
Our shoes were soaked and our feet were freezing, but it was an interesting landmark to explore and photograph, so I guess it was worth it ;)
