Making and Doing

I was so mentally ready for school to start that I spent many hours in August sitting by the pool or reading on the beach to refresh myself on Art History, animation, film history, movie monsters, ancient egypt and prehistoric art. My brain was so filled with fascinating concepts, trivia and facts that I would have to take mental breaks.  I'm excited to begin the school year more than prepared, but my heart is still at the beach. It was 95 degrees on our first full day of school and I bee-lined it to the beach after work to enjoy a FREE, nearly empty beach all to myself.

Equipped with only a coffee can, cardboard box, tissue paper and masking tape, it took me only 10 minutes to create a handmade camera; the camera obscura. My students and I ventured outside to see what would happen if you pointed the camera at a well lit subject. They were so surprised to see the image flipped upside down.

If I have a spare moment, I continue sewing up some canvas bags and making fabric earrings for some crafts shows I'm participating in this year.

Stealing eggs from my parents' chickens and finding bones at Island Beach State Park.

Labor Day came and went. My cousin stayed with us for the weekend, so we did a lot of bike riding.

Looking forward, I'm excited for Friday night's show in Asbury Park.  Thomas Wesley Stern takes the stage at Langosta Lounge, and Mad Feather Group and Bone and Marrow plays next door at Yacht Club. Hope to see you there!
