Some things about the weekend
I cleaned, carded and went through A LOT of fiber, in hopes of selling some skeins of yarn for the first time next month. Some craft show announcements coming soon! (I learned recently that spinning was a really important aspect of ancient Greek culture.)
Daimon put up the rest of the spooky decorations.
Daimon and I went to New York on Saturday. We were uptown... then downtown... then walked back up to Times Square. We bumped into a surprise parade in China Town. Daimon, of course, said it was a planned surprise for my birthday.
Daimon took me to the MET on Saturday to see ancient Greek and ancient Egyptian art. Look at the details of these gem carvings! The MET has a huge collection of these little works of art, and each case was just as breath taking as the next. The grey piece on the right is just a relief (or stamp) from the original.
I taught myself the different names of Greek pottery and columns. I can tell you, this is definitely an Ionic column.
The Greeks really enjoyed sculpting hair, but I should be clear that these sculptures were made in bronze and these are Roman, marble copies.
I feel like I saw this man playing a show.
Speaking of show... there is no pleasure quite like the pleasure I had watching this band again. More than ten years ago, I saw Glassjaw in Asbury Park after my friend's mom dropped of us off (we weren't old enough to even hold a permit). I took their pictures with a cheap disposable camera. People didn't hold up their cell phones during a performance, but one thing didn't change; the energy. I got just as close to the stage, and was as tightly packed in a crazy crowd of strangers as I was last time.
My buddy, Cody, openned for the Glassjaw/Coheed and Cambria show in the band Thank you Scientist. They played a great after party too. If you enjoy talented musicians playing math-rock with a Claudio Sanchez voice you might just like these guys.
