Internet Power-Trips

With social media came a great responsibility that most people might not entirely recognize.  We are given a metaphorical "soap box" and to really state something and make people think or change you have to know when and how to post it. Does it get mixed in between meaningless posts that people can't relate to or care about? Do you post too frequently?

Once in a while a friend will say something about how my Facebook page gets attention, and truthfully, I don't think it has much to do with me at all.  I'm like the person who puts up flyers on a light pole with a stapler.  I wish my name wasn't attached, but maybe it does give it some creditability now that I have a reputation as a volunteer and active community member.  It's just that I post about things people should know and care about in the community. I'm not talking about politics or advances in science, but real opportunities to make a difference with a few dollars, or small businesses that need promotion, or bands that are starting out. People want to see what THEY can do and what THEY can relate to. Thinking outside of your own personal world is a start, and it's very important to remain selfless and compassionate when you get on that soap box. I'm glad I have one, and don't intend to over use it and abuse it.
