The road trip to Colorado and back in 5 days last January conditioned me to not mind uncomfortable seating on long hauls. The 9 hour ride to New Hampshire was like a piece of cake! A few family members and I traveled the distance to see my cousin graduate with her doctorate from Dartmouth; first in the family! On the way up, my grandmother wanted to stop in her hometown so I was sure to bring my film camera. She was tearful to see the many new buildings that have taken the place of memorable homes. The family stayed in a historic hotel that night, built in the mid 1700's. The next morning, we woke up at 5:30am to get dressed and hustle to the event to get a close seat. My cousin, now a doctor in Molecular Medicine (uh, hello, are we related??), looked so beautiful!
She had no clue that within minutes of receiving her diploma, her boyfriend would propose at the top of the bell tower at Dartmouth, in front of hundreds of family members and graduates on the green. It was an incredible moment I'll never forget. I was so appreciative to have been there.
It was really cold once the sun hid behind the clouds. It was hard to believe that New Jersey was nearly 95 degrees all weekend.
Only yesterday we tried to hurry back to New Jersey, since I stupidly planned to play a show last night. After driving for nearly 9 hours, I finally made it back to Asbury Park to play. Thankfully I didn't keel over since there were a few photographers there. This shot was taken by composer and photographer, David Lawn.
Today was the last day of school; we played scrabble and wrote words in graffiti in the school parking lot. At the end of the day, I walked back to my car to find this sidewalk chalk message.
