No ordinary book on the shelf

At the library yesterday, while I was taking out all three "Scary Stories to tell in the dark", I noticed an interesting book cover in the children's section.  It was not surprising that it won a Caldecott Medal. Each page was incredibly detailed with papercuts. I can't even fathem the amount of time it look to create even one page.  While it is beautiful,  it is a little dark for younger children, and there are some sad moments exploring death and injustice.  While it is a deeply distressing story, the artistry is what really caught my eye.

This photo doesn't do it justice. Imagine each little section was cut out with an Xacto knife, and no tears.

It would be worth it to put in a request at your library to check it out yourself. It's amazing what people can do with a great idea and time.
