The title of this post is what Richie Brown said when describing one of his sound collages. A person with a solid philosophy, local cult following, and personality that is incomparable to anybody I know, Sir Brown is a renaissance man to say the least. I say a "person", not "artist", because he identifies with the word "artist" as implying a separation between that person and the audience. He makes interactive art so that the viewer can be the "artist" in a sense. This communal philosophy is what makes his work strong and unique in the community. He explores his interests of psychology, dark humor, and human nature in the forms of painting, soft sculpture construction, sound collage, animation and furniture/clothing design. Words that come to mind when I think of Richie... innovative, aliens, buttcracks, string gel, and neon paint. You have to hear these songs Richie constructed from everyday sounds, it's unlike anything I've ever heard before. The christmas one is so delightfully disturbing I could listen to it in the summer!
If you can imagine Pee Wee's playhouse, that's similar to his art studio in the basement of a Toms River, New Jersey home.

Richie never asks me for help when he wants to pursue a sewing project. I'm impressed with his knowledge of that Brother sewing machine!
If you happened to ask Richie what his next projects are, prepare for a long list! In the next month, Richie will have completed an animated music video for the band Brick & Mortar, all drawn by hand using characters he created (you can see a clip on his website listed below). He's also been diligently working on a window display for the store Atomic! in Point Pleasant. The window display will have kinetic soft sculptures and will be an experience for anybody who walks by. In the same store, Richie will be exhibiting his artwork on August 10th from 5-9pm. Click here for art show details.
