Art & Music Weekend

I'm planning on relaxing Friday and staying busy all weekend. There's so much to do!

On Saturday morning, I'll be checking out the Allaire State Park Flea Market, followed by the Chico's Art and Music showcase titled "Art Floods the Heart" (link here) with several featured artists, including myself. One of my favorite local bands, We Used to Cut the Grass, is playing among 9 bands on the lineup. One of the members uses a saw as an instrument; you'd have to see it to believe it. The show starts at 8pm and runs through the night. Chico's House of Jazz in Asbury Park is only charging $5 for a night of art and music.

On Sunday, from 12-4, Photocenter partnered with Nikon to host this unique event for artists and photographers. Held at the beautiful and historic Allaire State Park, artists, photographers, family and friends are invited to participate in free workshops. Daimon and I will be there helping with this family friendly event, hosting 2 of the several workshops on the itinerary (we're focusing on drawing and india ink).  You might see some hoopers and people dressed in costume.

And lastly, to conclude the weekend, Elevator Art's playing a show at the Asbury Lanes on Sunday the 23rd (Link Here). Doors at 8, we go on around 10.

In preparation for Saturday, I just finished a piece titled "Navajo".  Like a piece of string, we have a beginning and an end that travel the same circular course that human beings have been following for thousands of years.  We may have the same inevitable destiny, but it is the variation of how we live the ups and downs of life that makes our lives meaningful regardless of the predetermined pattern. Years ago, an inspirational woman commented on a mistake I had made on a piece of art. I was very frustrated with the unintentional error and she said to accept it as a "navajo"; this imperfection is what makes it perfect because that's what really addresses the core of humanity. Because of her insight, (and researching more about that native american philosophy), I make work addressing that issue and make an "imperfect" mark purposely on nearly all of my work.  This new nonrepresentational piece illustrates what we share as human beings: the "navajos" that enrich our lives. I didn't want to share it online just yet; you'll have to see it on Saturday!
