First day out, on Mother's Day

The chickies are 3 weeks old and I took them out for their first experience outside. Everything must've looked so huge to them! They had some difficulty walking around in the grass, but they naturally and instinctively knew how to scratch at the grass to look for little bugs to munch on.

It's amazing how different they look in just 3 weeks. The rhode island reds have a few brown feathers peeking through and the barred rock birds' feathers look more like checker boards. It was such an incredible moment to watch them experience the warm sun and outdoors for the first time.  They loved it so much they laid down right away like they were tanning.
