An Average week of Moths, Mosaics and Donuts

It's funny how two unrelated things can meet at unexpected times. I'm currently writing a lesson plan on Lichtenstein and also putting up flyers to promote the Cattus Island Benefit Show.  I went to Hot Topic to give them a flyer and saw this shirt, which I may just buy when I do the lesson. Awesome.

It took nearly two years to make this vision a reality at Ocean's Harbor House, a youth shelter for teens, which I've been volunteering at for the past 6 years.  It's amazing how much this changed the overall feeling of their outside area, which is the first thing you see when you drive up to the house.  I imagine what a teen might think seeing this place for the first time and taking in that it'll be their home for a while.

I strongly recommend wearing gloves for this process.  My hands are still cracking and dry from this project.

Even if you're not a donut person, Obco's and Uncle Dude's might convert you.  My friend and I go grab donuts once a week early in the morning and enjoy 'em on the beach.  Ok, so you gain 20 pounds, but it's worth it!

At Insectropolis, I was lucky enough enjoy a lesson on bug pinning. The two specimens here are a Luna moth and Polyphemus moth.

These are some of the Polyphemus moths at the museum.  These are not taken from their homes, but raised in someone's home, and they contribute many of these moths to the woods to replenish the population.

And lastly, Daimon and I finally finished something we've been working on all summer. This calendar will help raise funds for the "Friends of Cattus Island". Coming soon!
