Even a few years after graduating from Caldwell College (now University), my roommates' observations of me still hold true today; I'm the last to go to bed and the first to rise. Knowing that the alarm would go off at 4:30am to start an epic walk from Point Pleasant Beach to Seaside Heights, I couldn't resist making a few things with the newly screen printed fabric my friend finished for me. After creating designs, I sent precut fabric and the designs to my friend who screen prints, and they were promptly returned.
Better quality pics coming soon!
Yesterday morning, I picked up a great read from the library called "The Forgotten Arts & Crafts" by John Seymour. Just the foreword alone captivated me enough to keep reading. Three hours later, I put the book down and purchased it on amazon. I also decided to look up the author to contact him (ya, I was that impressed with the read), but was sadly disappointed to learn he died 10 years ago. I feel that his spirit continues to live in many kinds of people, myself included, who value the lost crafts of the past and aim to preserve and inform the public about them to teach about our history, culture, and encourage appreciation and admiration for the time devoted to learning these skills. It's a fantastic read for anyone who likes to do things themselves for practicality, beauty, and therapy.
Anyway... COCKADOODLE DOOO!! I sent that text at 4:30 am to my friend, Matt, who met Daimon and me in Point Pleasant. It took 6 1/2 full hours with only one stop we made, to a cafe for breakfast sandwiches. Both the patrons and workers treated us like celebrities for going on this trek. The quiet Charlie's cafe probably never had so much excitement before.
You better believe I crashed when I came home, and my poor feet are really upset with me! I'm spending some time embroidering these canvas bags while Daimon reads his new Nietzsche book.
