Appreciating the hand made

The school where I teach gave me the green light to invite visiting artists to the school, so I managed to invite the incredibly talented luthier, Scott McMahon. He brought his handmade guitars and talked mostly about his interests in Egyptology. The students were so interested in touching the rattle snake guitar because it looked so real.

Admittingly, I don't have a plethora of knowledge about ancient Egypt, so I have been teaching myself. It's been so refreshing to be a student once again, and I knew it would be an enriching experience to teach myself about such an interesting and sophisticated culture.  I stumbled upon this picture while I was researching certain Egyptian statues.

This Friday, we're planning for an eclectic night of music, opera, poetry and art. Stop by the Belmar Arts Council to pick up some poetry books and a cd we'll be releasing FOR FREE.
