A 4th of July Tradition

Yesterday was our 3rd annual "Breakfast for Champions". The alarm was set at 7:30am, to hustle over to two different gardens (with permission!) and cut only the male zucchini flowers.

I come closer to being an expert at frying these delicate flowers every year. The first year's batch didn't look appealing at all, even though they were tasty.  Basil in every garden is healthy this year, even my own!  Mix together a cup of ricotta, 2 tablespoons of parmesan cheese, salt & pepper, and a big bunch of cut basil, and you have the filling.
