Going Together, Playing Solo

For the first time since I've been playing music, I'll be playing an open mic night with a stand up bassist. We'll be performing tonight at the new Asbury Hotel, the first hotel to be built in Asbury Park in over 50 years. Since its opening in June, I can admit I've been there enough to know the layout. With it's 5th floor, outdoor movie theater, rooftop bar, swanky open mic setting, pool, food truck area and more, you can be sure it's the spot to be this summer.

Later tonight, Daimon is playing with a few fellow instrumentalists at the Lentil Tree in Asbury Park. He sent me a text while he was at work that said, "I was asked to play at Lentil Tree. If we can go together I'll watch you play and then you can watch me play." A message like that would easily describe a time in my life if I were to look back when I'm older. Sometimes I really don't like the impermanence of our communication these days, but I guess when you're at work passing a note just wouldn't be possible!
