Snow Day Somethings

Like many people snowed in, I spent some time on the online, researching places to check out in Texas and New Orleans, and interesting venues where we could doing a sun session through Sun Lab Studio.  We were able to record in a Cave in Virginia last year, so why shouldn't we explore other interesting locations?

Daimon and I watched a few movies, one of which was "The Greatest Show on Earth". It wasn't my favorite movie, but I really liked the costumes, which might serve as inspiration when I have to create one in the coming months.

I even worked on a few eggs.

I learned that a loved person in the community had passed, and I wanted to do something special for his knowledgable beekeeper and naturalist who has helped Daimon as a mentor numerous times.  I helped assemble boards of pictures for his wake with his wife, who told me all the stories behind the photos.

The beekeeper's association donated more flowers than you can imagine. In most of his photos, he is holding up comb, a flower, or there's a bee on his clothing or head!

The cat likes to snuggle up and fell asleep on his back!

Mountain Pearl

When Homeless Apians and Bone and Marrow agreed to travel and play together this summer, our first trip was to Asheville, North Carolina.  On our return trip home, we discussed the possibility of playing and recording in unusual environments with equipment charged and powered by the sun. With only a few hours left of the drive, we took an exit off a highway in Virginia to find the perfect cave for what we wanted to do.  "Mountain Pearl"was documented in Endless Caverns, and I'm so glad we have some video evidence of the experience! We were appreciative that they were open to the idea.  The Hapi drums were vital to the captivating quality of the song, and a cave setting was all too fitting for the drums.

If you are a musician or perform in a band who would like to record a song in an outdoor environment, contact Sun Lab Studio or check out their site for more details.

So excited to share this new recording

Daimon and I record under the name "Bow and Arrow" and we have a new recording coming your way.  Yesterday was the perfect day to record in Double Trouble State Park, with the infamous Sun Lab Studio, who I featured as a small business last year. Sun Lab Studio is so unique for recording bands and artists in natural environments while they use the energy from the sun to power all the equipment.  I'll share my favorite polaroids when we release the song, but here's some visuals as a teaser.

Our next song is titled, "Somewhere Together".

Small Business of September

September's small business goes to...

Sun Lab Studio

Come on, what band wouldn't want the experience to record wherever they want; on the beach, in the woods, in your own back yard.  Kevin Grossman, founder of Sun Lab Studio, drives an Outback with solar panels on the roof to provide this service. Already having recorded several bands, including his own, Karmic Juggernaut, Kevin has built a reputation for himself as an experienced sound engineer as well as a talented drummer.  A listing of all his gear is on the website in addition to the variety of services Sun Lab Studio can provide.

Thomas Wesley Stern, a well known local band in my area were recorded in in the woods. Check out the recording.

Here's some photos I took with my Minolta film camera.

It's equally as mesmerizing to watch a live band playing in these environments as it is to hear the recordings. They have a flavor and character that you wouldn't get from a controlled environment. I invite you to check it out.
