I know it's been a while since I posted about a small business.. but I'm making a comeback. This month I wanted to shine a light on a new place ...
Located near the late OB diner in Point Pleasant, a new tattoo parlor has opened up by local tattoo artist and musician Kirk Nilsen. I'm always telling Kirk how much I admire him for his motivation and perseverance to open his own shop, especially considering he's my age and already a dad. I love the way his shop is decorated with old keys and colorful art.
Kirk has been drawing since he was 5 years old. His first sold works of art were drawn pictures of football trading cards when he was in elementary school. He has spent most of his lifetime as a musician, however. He toured all over America and Canada countless times, signing with labels in England and Germany. It was due to these experiences that Kirk decided his passion was in tattooing. He first gained a reputation as an album and band t-shirt illustrator and soon people would get their band's logo tattooed on them. He started tattooing while on tour, drew up flash sheets, and was determined to find an apprenticeship.
This parlor is super calm, relaxed and more modern than other places with a european feel to it. This is not the kind of shop where the artist is going to make you uncomfortable or give you an attitude. While you're waiting on their fancy couch, you might want to check out Kirk's published book.
