The Best Gifts are Handmade

Daimon and I have so many generous DIY'ers in our lives!  For our wedding 2 weeks ago, we had a few friends and family pitch in with their talents to make our day as meaningful as it was.

Local artist and indie published poet, Kathy Polenberg, painted a wedding present which I gave Daimon when I moved in.  It's of the 2 of us at Allaire State Park! Can you tell which birds we are?  We always thought of ourselves as the lanky, beachgoing crane and simple, humorous mallard duck.

Another friend and show-goer, Mike McCormick, did a drawing at one of our band's shows in Seaside and gave us a print of it. Thanks Mike!

Our lovely and talented aunt Debbie Ford did the table arrangements and people LOVED them.  Our initials in colored sand was such a great idea! It brought so much life to our reception party.

Our friend and graphic designer, Julie Lockwood, made this amazing windchime. It sounds just as pretty as it looks in the light.  It's one of the nicest things to look at in the apartment (besides all my salt and pepper shakers haha!)  If you'd like to purchase one, send me a comment and I'll give you her information.  So much work is involved from spray painting the silverware to cutting the glass bottles.

This veil was a labor of love, made by embroidery artist Mary Santa Maria.  Daimon's mom worked diligently on this veil for months, constantly sending me pictures and asking for my opinions.  I couldn't be happier with it.  I burst into tears when it arrived in the mail.  Every inch of beading must've taken forever to do.  My veil is unlike any you've ever seen.  There are moonstones, swarovski crystals, seed beads, and green amethysts throughout this wearable work of art. No veil in any bridal shoppe could be as flawless, gorgeous, or perfect for me. It shimmered blues and greens in the light.

She currently designs and beads custom veils, so message me to get her info if you're interested. She gives free estimates!

Our rings were made by local silversmith, Tiffany Chana, of Salt & Steel.  We drew up our own idea of what the rings should look like and stamped the date on the inside.

And last but not least, Daimon and I wanted to say a huge thank you to our talented friends, the Mullens for the awesome cupcakes they slaved over. We had Creamsicle flavored cupcakes that looks like Kohrs Ice-cream, chai cupcakes, raspberry cupcakes, and pina colada cupcakes. They were so delicious, people are still talking about them. The Mullen sisters arranged for cupcake tasting and had us involved every step of the way.

With a lot of help from friends and family, we created a wedding WEEK that was a reflection of who we are.  Our ceremony was intimate and our party, after party, and after-after party were so fun-filled and meaningful because of the people who contributed to it. I'd tell any engaged couple to ask friends or family to contribute in small ways. It makes everybody feel good and those small contributations are special because it came from them. Now we have heirlooms and memories that we'll keep forever. Thanks everybody!
